Photo...Monday: Reggae Marathon

One of the best annual events that Peace Corps Jamaica Volunteers participate in is the Reggae Marathon in Negril, on the very western end of the island. I was coerced into signing up for the 10K (yes, that is 6ish miles) and did rather well for no training whatsoever. The race started at 5:15 in the morning and it’s a good thing because it got HOT later in the morning. We had 4 half marathoners and 3 full marathoners. Following the race, we were given free Red Stripe, coconut water (fresh from the coconut!), and a lot of free food. After everyone recovered from the race, we headed over to Rick’s Cafe, a local institution featuring a 40-foot cliff that you can jump off of. Because I value my life, I did not (you’re welcome, Mom.)

And what was your finishing time for this 10K?

1:15! Not to bad. That’s the longest distance I’ve ever run. They’re trying to talk me into doing the half marathon next year…
