Photo Fridays: Turtles!

Photo Fridays: Turtles!

A few months ago, a group of us met in Oracabessa, St. Mary (home to James Bond Beach and Goldeneye Resort) at our favorite hostel, Nix Nax, for a fellow PCV’s birthday. Not far from there, a turtle release program is underway. A few of us showed up at the beach and helped release some baby hawksbill turtles, a critically endangered species. They are endangered, in part, because turtles and turtle egg soup are supposed to improve your “manhood.” Let’s just say that masculinity and virility are very important to Jamaican men. Thankfully, the Oracabessa Foundation (and their PCVs) are doing some great work in educating the public about this important species.
